To all my dear readers: I’ve taken the difficult decision to wrap up artsmanagement.ie, in particular the jobs & opportunities listings, after 17 years of running this site.
When I began this blog back in October 2007 (while at the very end of my PhD, and as a new-ish lecturer at UCD!) I did so with the aim of helping folks who were job-seeking in the sector; enhancing transparency around hiring; publicizing events and professional development opportunities; and highlighting the amazing creative work happening across the island.
I know from so many kind emails and conversations over the years that the site has fulfilled these intentions. Over the past 17 years, it’s had almost 1.5 million views, 550k+ unique visitors, and 14k+ subscribers, which is pretty amazing! However, the site’s always been a labour of love: I’ve paid for the domain registration myself most years, and spent many hours at the weekends and in the evenings posting jobs updates, answering emails, offering job advice to folks who’ve contacted me, etc. I’ve never taken any payment for listings in order to stay independent: nor have I taken up a few offers over the years to buy the domain & the site.
I don’t regret any of it: it’s been an absolute privilege running artsmanagement.ie, and if it’s helped you over the years, feel free to drop a note into the comments. I’m quite sad about this decision, to be honest, but my responsibilities at UCD have steadily increased, and it’s just not sustainable for me anymore.
I’ll still be busy helping to deliver our MA in Cultural Policy and Arts Management; coordinating and leading our new & extremely popular BA in Creative & Cultural Industries; and teaching on the MA in Art History: Curating and Collecting, BA in Art History, and the BA in Classics, Art History & Archaeology. In 2025, I’ve a book to progress, an exhibition in Dublin Castle to co-curate, a special journal issue to co-edit, and a heap of other projects & publications. Thankfully, I’ll be on research sabbatical in the spring to see some of these through, with part of that time on fellowships at the Library of Congress (Washington DC) and the University of Toronto.
I’m having conversations with my School about whether the site will continue in some form or another, and will let my readers know if this does happen. I’ll keep the archived site live for the time being, especially the sections pointing folks towards other job-seeking resources. In the meantime, I’m happy to share job/opportunity announcements internally with our UCD MA & BA students: feel free to email me, but please keep in mind I only have access to our current and most recent students & graduates (before their UCD email expires!)
Otherwise, you’ll still find me on LinkedIn (where I try to share similar jobs & events!), on Twitter/X, and occasionally on Instagram. Thanks, as always, for reading 🙂
x Emily

Hi Emily, thank you for putting this much needed website together and caring for it over the past 17 years.
I have many friends who got jobs out of it. I hope UCD can find someone to take it over, its so needed in an industry with so few opportunities.
Also good luck with your new book and I look forward to your new exhibition in Dublin Castle.

These listings have been an extraordinary resource over so many years – what an incredible support to the sector, and what a massive voluntary contribution to each person who found work through them. I hope that they can continue in another form, but regardless, take a bow and thank you.
best wishes

I’ve kept my artsmanagement.ie sub for years since finishing arts in UCD in 2010 – I was excitedly browsing any and all jobs posted, if not for me then I’d browse for friends. I still browse the mails for old times sake even though I’m now in my dream job (uni library). I really appreciated the hard consistent work that went into this indie site. I didn’t think that I’d ever fee nostalgic about a mailing list but here we are!
thank you do much Emily for providing this service. It was incredibly generous of you and having spent almost as long myself promoting over 40 Irish artists through my business The Blackbird Gallery Kilkenny with absolutely no financial assistance in 14 years I totally understand the need to dedicate time to other things which is what I have done since the pandemic. Good luck and thank you again.
EmilyThanks so much for doing this website it is inspiring and invaluab
